Congratulations to Aquamoves Swimming Instructor Brennan Swift who has been awarded the Allan Blue Memorial Trophy for Most Outstanding Country Swimmer for the state of Victoria during 2016 - 2017!
The award is presented to the swimmer who has earnt the highest number of FINA points from Country Meets held during the year. The closer a swim is to a world record time, the more FINA points are accrued.
Brennan accepted the award at Swimming Victoria’s Annual Awards night held at St Kilda Town Hall last Sunday evening in Melbourne; however the modest Shepparton Swimming Club member says the win was quite unexpected.
“It’s a surprise to me because I thought there’d be plenty of other swimmers in country Victoria getting closer to world records than I was.”
Brennan has been swimming since he was five years old after being encouraged to get involved in the sport by his parents.
“I love it. The social aspect, getting to travel and meeting new friends all around - you can’t beat it.”
Shepparton Swimming Club Head Coach, Michelle Swift says the award is great recognition for all the work Brennan has put in as a Victorian Country Swimmer.
“He’s been swimming Countries now for nine years and it just shows what he’s achieved and the calibre of times he’s been reaching.”
“An award like this, it’s very encouraging and helps to keep you interested and motivated,” Ms Swift added.
Brennan has been a Swimming Instructor at Aquamoves since late 2014 and says he enjoys working with children to develop their skills in the water.
“It’s just a really good opportunity to pass on my knowledge and share my passion for swimming with them. Hopefully they enjoy it as much as I do.”
