Works on the retiling of the 25m indoor pool at Aquamoves are progressing well, with Greater Shepparton City Council taking advantage of the centre’s closure under Stage Three restrictions to get this much needed and long-awaited project completed.
On Time Developments has been contracted to undertake the works, which in recent weeks has seen the entire 25m pool stripped back to its shell and all tiles removed. The next stage will include preparing the pool and immediate surrounds for new tiles to be laid.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure, Phil Hoare says the upgrade will ensure the facility remains safe and accessible for its users.
“Prior to COVID-19, Aquamoves was receiving more than 650,000 visitors annually, with the 25m pool being one of the facility’s key attractions. However after 23 years of high usage, a major upgrade was needed in order to continue meeting our community’s needs in a safe manner.”
“This is an important community facility and as well as ensuring the safety of the pool, these significant works will also reduce the ongoing operational repair and maintenance costs,” Mr Hoare said.
It is important to note while the 25m indoor pool will not be available until these works are finished, other facilities at Aquamoves will reopen as restrictions are eased. This includes the centre’s leisure and hydrotherapy pools. The project is expected to be completed by late November/early December this year.
