During the past two weeks, Tatura Primary School students have all completed an intensive one week swimming program at Aquamoves.

Principal Susanne Gill said it was with great excitement and anticipation, they ventured by bus each day into Shepparton.

‘‘For the Foundation students, their first school bus experience was equally enjoyable as the actual swimming,’’ she said.

‘‘Once into their groupings, the students focused each day on tasks to improve their swimming skills. ‘‘With the juniors busy duck diving, bobbing on noodles and kicking behind a kickboard, there was plenty to keep everyone active and engaged.’’

Mrs Gill said students practised breathing techniques, floating, torpedoes, as well as swimming strokes, treading water and survival skills.

‘‘The Aquamoves instructors patiently guided and encouraged the students to challenge themselves and improve their skills, she said.’’

‘‘The students also practised water safety skills, learning what todo to keep themselves and others safe around water.’’

Mrs Gill said later in the week the students were bursting with excitement, at the thought of having a turn on the waterslide.

‘‘Giggles of excitement could be heard through the tunnel before they plunged into the supportive hands of the instructors. Once initial nerves were overcome, they lined up for more,’’ she said.

The children enjoyed having parents travel with them on the bus, or go along to watch and encourage them.

The children recalled their swimming experiences in a written diary each day at school. Mrs Gill said the following week was the middle and senior sections turn.

‘‘These more seasoned swimmers quickly got into their routines and made the most of their time in the water. The constant activity and swimming challenges certainly made for sound sleeping as the week went on,’’ Mrs Gill said.

‘‘Tomorrow, June 1, we invite the Tatura community to come along to our schools Open Day.’’

‘‘School tours will be conducted between 9.30 am and 1.30 pm — all welcome.’’
