Aquamoves’ new outdoor area, that includes a new splash park and leisure pool, was officially opened today, Thursday 3 December.
The $3.4million redevelopment, includes a new beach entry leisure pool, splash deck, with many interesting features and landscaping including sandy beach area, barbecues and shade.
In addition to Council's $2.4million investment in the new splash park outdoor area, $1million of a total $1.5million from the Victorian Government's Better Pools program was used for upgrades to the outdoor pool areas, with the remaining $500,000 used for gym and group fitness upgrades last year.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Dobson said outdoor area will not only bring in people from around out municipality, but also tourists from around Australia.
"The outdoor area perfectly complements the existing facilities like Victoria Park Lake and positions Aquamoves as a fantastic attraction for residents and tourists," Cr Dobson said.
"This facility is part of the reason that makes the Goulburn Valley one of the most livable regions in Victoria.
"This is something that the residents of Greater Shepparton can be proud of.
"One of the most noteworthy benefits is that the new Splash Park and beach area will provide many benefits for people with disabilities.
"The zero water depth means Aquamoves' PVC wheelchairs can be utilised to allow people with disabilities to participate in almost all activities and share the same experiences on the deck as an able-bodied person."
Aquamoves' new outdoor facilities are open daily from 9.00am to 9.00pm in school holidays.
