Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking two young ambassadors to join Mayor Jenny Houlihan on a trip to meet Bindi and Robert Irwin in Melbourne next week, to promote the region’s fresh food industry and healthy living. Be quick - entries close 5pm Friday 15 February.

Council has launched a drawing competition to identify the lucky children who will represent the young people of Greater Shepparton.

The Irwins, children of Australia Zoo founders Terri and Steve Irwin and passionate wildlife conservationists in their own right, will be launching a healthy eating campaign with SPC Ardmona. Cr Houlihan has been invited to welcome the Irwins to the Goulburn Valley family, and is looking for two young ambassadors to tell them the great things to see and do in Greater Shepparton.

“Who better to tell Bindi and Robert about the wonderful activities available to young people than our own young people?” Cr Houlihan said. “I’ll also be asking the winners to present a special welcome package to the Irwins, full of delights from our attractions such as SPC Ardmona Kidstown, Aquamoves and SAM, and a special certificate thanking them for supporting our local industry.”

Children between the ages of five and eighteen are invited to enter the competition by drawing a picture of what it might be like if Bindi and Robert came to play at SPC Ardmona Kidstown, as well as a description in 25 words or less about what they love about living in the region.

The winners will be given a free trip to meet the Irwins with the Mayor, and will also receive a gift pack with merchandise and passes from Kidstown, Aquamoves, SAM, SPC Ardmona, and Australia Zoo.

Entrants will need to get in quickly – entries close at 5pm on Friday 15 February. The two winning entries will be judged by the Mayor at 9am on Monday 18 February, and the winners will need to be available to travel with a parent or guardian to Melbourne on Tuesday 19 February.

Entry forms can be collected from Council offices at 90 Welsford Street, or downloaded from the link below. Completed entries can be mailed to Locked Bag 1000 Shepparton 3632, left at reception at Council’s Welsford St offices, or emailed to council@shepparton.vic.gov.au.
