Greater Shepparton City Council is encouraging residents to get involved in a new campaign to discover and promote our local tourist attractions in your own Backyard.

A survey is available online and residents will receive a postcard in their mailbox promoting the campaign and encouraging them to get involved. The most creative response will win a prize pack valued at up to $1500.

Greater Shepparton Acting Mayor Les Oroszvary urged residents to take part in the survey.

"We want people to tell us about their favourite local tourist attractions and even some hidden gems we might not know about," Cr Oroszvary said.

"We know that the predominant reason people visit Greater Shepparton is to visit their friends and relatives, so where do you take them when they are here?

"There is often the misconception that there are no tourist attractions in Greater Shepparton and we want people to help us change that myth. We want our residents to take pride in what we do have on offer."

A number of local ambassadors will be engaged in this campaign and encouraged to share their favourite local tourist experience.

The survey is available from www.discovershepparton.com.au and will be open until 15 November.
