The trial Single Gender Bathing sessions held at Aquamoves late last year have been evaluated and it has been recommended that the program will continue.

Mayor of Greater Shepparton, Cr Anne McCamish, said the evaluation was conducted independently and was a requirement of the VicHealth funding received for the program.

“The evaluation of the Single Gender Bathing program included pre- and post-program questionnaire results from program participants, input from the program’s facilitators and staff that were directly involved in providing the program, contributions from program planners and management, and feedback from steering committee representatives.”

“The results from the sessions were encouraging; 39 women and girls attended the initial session and the numbers jumped to 62 at the second session. The average number of participants over the trial period was approximately 50.”

“The program will continue to be aimed at women however the feasibility of ‘Male Only’ sessions will now be investigated,” said the Mayor.

“In implementing the recommendations of the evaluation report, the Council will ensure that any future sessions will be held outside of Ramadan and outside of normal operating hours,” she said.

“Other initiatives that will be considered as part of the ongoing implementation of the Single Gender Bathing sessions include strategic promotional and marketing activities, orientation sessions to increase participants understanding of water safety protocols, further training for staff, and future possible program activities such as water aerobics and swimming lessons,” Cr McCamish said.
