Free kite making and flying, and a “Seek, Explore, Find” adventure will help parents in Greater Shepparton beat the holiday blues this January.

Parks Victoria and Greater Shepparton City Council have partnered to provide free activities to encourage the community to get out and be active in the region’s many local parks.
Kite Flying in the Park, funded through Parks Victoria and the Council’s partnership program “Activities in the Park” will allow participants to design, build and fly their own kite, at no cost. Rob King the Kite man will come along to show participants how to fly a kite. The sessions will take place throughout January across the region (details below).
People can also go into the draw to win fantastic prizes by finding the Parks Victoria Junior Ranger animals which have been hidden amongst Greater Shepparton’s large network of tracks, trails, parks and playgrounds. Participants must find one of each of the Junior Rangers possum, owl, and wombat. Prizes include a four person tent and camping stretchers, Rays Outdoor vouchers and Ranger Roo gift packs.

Possible places to find the animals include Reedy Swamp and Victoria Park Lake, Shepparton, SPC Ardmona Kidstown Mooroopna, Lake Bartlett in Tatura, and Murchison Recreation Reserve (details below).

“There’ll be no reason to hear the dreaded words ‘I’m bored!’ with these fantastic, free, family friendly events during the school holidays,” said Kaye Thomson, Director Community for Greater Shepparton City Council.

“Council is proud to support activities like this which encourage the community to make the most of our wide variety of parks, playgrounds and walking tracks of which we are rightly proud. By keeping the activities free, we can ensure that everyone is able to participate in healthy activities in their local environment, in a fun way,” Ms Thomson said.
