Aquamoves is holding a free swim assessment day to help parents identify their child’s current swimming ability on Sunday 6 April.

Aquamoves Aquatics Coordinator Lindy Baldi said children gained confidence from attending swimming lessons as they make new friends while learning new skills.

"Aquamoves will hold two free assessment sessions on Sunday 6 April from 9.00am to 11.00am and from 2.00pm to 4.00pm," said Ms Baldi

"Swimming lessons are a fun physical activity and children emerge with advanced swim skills and an increased awareness of water safety.

"Being able to swim is an important skill to have as it may save your life or someone else's life one day.

"After the assessment our instructors will be able to suggest the right swimming group for your child."

According to Victorian Education Learning standards children by the end of grade one should be able to independently move through the water for 10 metres and be able to tread water.

As they progress through the levels children continue to develop and consolidate skills and by grade six they should be able to swim continuously for 50 metres and float or tread water for at least four minutes.
