Areas in Greater Shepparton received up to 160mm of rain yesterday, with the north end of town worst hit.

Connelly Estate, Pine Estate, Hawkins Estate, King Richard Drive, Ross Allen Drive, Orchard Circuit, Cameron Avenue, Packham Street, Williams Road, Michel Street and Redgum Court were the most affected areas.

Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Steve Bowmaker said that Council teams worked all afternoon and overnight closing affected roads, clearing fallen trees and checking pumps, drains, pen stocks and retardation basins.

"Teams are working flat out this morning to inspect and clear drains and we have called in extra pumps to move water from affected areas," Mr Bowmaker said.

"The SES set up an Incident Control Centre overnight and are the main agency managing this event."

Four houses were inundated and Council's Emergency Case Management staff are currently working with those residents on recovery matters.

Two pumps failed overnight, but were operational again within hours.

"I ask all residents to take care when driving through flood waters as well as not to play in flood waters. If possible avoid travelling through the affected areas."

Animals

Council's community rangers picked up a number of animals due to the storm, so please contact the Shelter on 5832 9794 if your pets are missing.

Council kindergartens

A number of Council kindergartens suffered some damage but are operating as normal.

Sandbags

Residents were able to access sandbags from Council's operations depot overnight.

If residents have water inundation, please contact SES on 132500.
