Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with AustCycle, is offering free bicycle lessons for residents.

The lessons will include:
  • Conducting a basic bike check
  • Correct riding positions
  • Mounting and dismounting
  • Braking, balancing and cornering
  • Changing gears
  • Riding on hills
  • Stopping and turning

Council's Healthy Communities Coordinator Belinda Conna said the lessons are aimed at people who want to get active.

"Adults of any skill level can take part from absolute beginners to those already with some bike skills," Ms Conna said.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for people who may not know how to ride a bike, to learn in a safe environment with qualified, friendly instructors.

"This project is being offered through Council's Get Mooving Greater Shepparton project which encourages members of the community to get involved and get healthy.

"We are also working with Shepparton Access to organise training programs for their service."

The training will be held at DECA Training Complex Shepparton, from 5.30pm - 7.30pm on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 20 March 2013
  • Wednesday 27 March 2013
  • Wednesday 3 April 2013
