A wrap of the Mad Cow Mud Run

A record number of about 1200 children have taken part in this year’s Mad Cow Mud Run along with about 1800 adults who tackled the obstacle course event.

‘‘It was fantastic; it exceeded our expectations,’’ event organiser Geoff Cobbledick said.

‘‘Everyone had a lot of fun.’’

Mr Cobbledick said the weather was perfect with some of the earlier competitors having to brace themselves heading down the water slide after a cool morning on Saturday.

‘‘Some people travelled up from Melbourne that regularly compete in these events and they were very complimentary of the course,’’ he said.

The Funky Cold Medinas team members — Corey Mark, Rob Steer and Michael Finn from Shepparton, Mooroopna and Diamond Creek respectively — agreed with Mr Cobbledick.

‘‘This event is one of the better organised ones,’’ Mr Mark said.

He and Mr Steer took part in their fourth Mad Cow Mud Run while Mr Finn tackled the course for the second time.

There were several participants returning for another crack at the muddy course including the Advance Fitness Shepparton team.

‘‘Advance Fitness have sponsored a team for the last two years,’’ team member Tamara Henderson said.

Ms Henderson, along with 13 teammates, tackled the 13 km course near KidsTown, between Shepparton and Mooroopna.

‘‘One of our goals is to promote the community and the economy,’’Mr Cobbledick said, with the event attracting participants from across the state.

Mr Cobbledick confirmed this would be the last Mad Cow Mud Run run by the current organising committee but hoped the event would be picked up by other organisers.

‘‘We’ve had a bit of interest, so with any luck there’ll be another,’’ he said.

Mr Cobbledick said the event would not have been possible without its generous sponsors and the hard work of about 130 volunteers.
