Greater Shepparton City Council’s main offices will close from 3.00pm on Friday 23 December 2011 and re-open at 8.15am on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

An after-hours call-out service will operate during this time and special arrangements are in place for core services.

The following is a summary of key services and their opening and closing days and times in the lead up to Christmas and New Year.

Welsford Street Office

Council's Welsford Street office will close at 3.00pm on Friday 23 December 2011 and re-open at 8.15am on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

Shepparton Art Museum/Riverlinks

Riverlinks will close at 3.00pm on Friday 23 December 2011 and re-open at 10.00am on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

The Shepparton Art Museum will re-open 18 February 2012

Greater Shepparton Business Centre

The Greater Shepparton Business Centre will close at 3.00pm on Friday 23 December 2011 and re-open at 8.15am on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

Visitor Information Centre

The Visitor Information Centre is open seven days a week from 9.00am to 5.00pm (except Christmas Day).

Waste Services

Council provides a range of waste services including kerbside garbage, recycling and green organics collections as well as waste disposal and recycling facilities Ardmona, Cosgrove, Murchison and Shepparton.

To check your collection days or find out what can and can't be collected through these services, visit the Waste section on Council's website. 

Kerbside collections for waste, recycling and organics will operate as normal during the Christmas and New Year period.

Cosgrove landfill will operate as normal during the Christmas and New Year period.

Shepparton Transfer Station will close at 3.00pm on Friday 23 December.

Shepparton, Murchison and Ardmona Transfer Stations will be closed on Christmas Day, (Sunday 25 December) Boxing Day (Monday 26 December) and New Year's Day, (Sunday 1 January). The transfer stations will reopen and operate the following hours:

Shepparton Transfer Station will re-open Tuesday 27 December 2011 from 9.00am to 4.00pm.

Murchison will re-open on Wednesday 28 December 2011 from 1.00pm to 4.00pm.

Ardmona Transfer Station will re-open on Thursday 29 December 2011 from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Animal Management

Council provides a range of animal management services including a range of animal control functions, including the running of a first-class animal shelter facility.

The animal shelter will close on Friday 23 December 2010 and re-open Tuesday 3 January 2011.

During closing business hours, residents can contact an officer on duty if it is crucial by phoning (03) 5832 9700 and following the prompts.

A Community Ranger will be on call and can be contacted on (03) 5832 9700 to report missing or lost animals, wandering dogs and cats, wandering livestock, unrestrained dangerous dogs, unrestrained dogs that have rushed or attacked people or another animal, open air burning in a residential area, injured domestic animals native animals and livestock, use of recreational vehicles operating on Council land.

Leisure facilities

Council operates the Shepparton Sports Stadium, Aquamoves, outdoor pools and SPC Ardmona KidsTown.

The Shepparton Sports Stadium will close on Friday 16 December 2011 and re-open on Monday 9 January 2012.

Merrigum, Mooroopna and Tatura outdoor pools will be closed on Christmas Day.

Aquamoves will be closed on Christmas Day, with special operating hours on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve from 8.30am to 5.00pm and New Year's Day from 12.00pm to 5.00pm. Aquamoves will be open 8.30am to 5.00pm on all other public holidays.

The SPC Ardmona KidsTown Playground is open for all school holidays from dawn to dusk, the KidsTown Cafe and the Miniature Train will be closed on 25 and 26 of December (Christmas Day and Boxing Day).

Summer School Holiday operational hours: The Miniature Train will operate from 11.00am to 3.00pm and the cafe will open from 10.00am to 4.00pm each day.

Children's Services

Council operates 24 centres and kindergartens throughout the municipality as well as Council's Family Day Care Service and Playgroups.

All Council managed child care centres will close at normal time on Thursday 22 December 2011.

Arthur Dickmann Children's Centre and Frank R Pullar Children's Centre will re-open from 7.00am on Tuesday 3 January 2012. Nancy Vibert Childcare Centre will re-open from 7.30am on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

Kindergarten closures will vary beginning Friday 16 December 2011. Kindergartens will re-open in the week beginning Wednesday 1 February 2012.

The Family Day Care office will close on Friday 23 December 2011 and re-open on Tuesday 3 January 2012. Arrangements can be made with individual Educators if care is required between 24 December 2011 to 3 January 2012 with a 24 hour service available if required. Normal Day Care hours will resume from 3 January.

Maternal and Child Health

Council's Maternal and Child Health will operate a reduced service from Friday 23 December until Monday 16 January 2012.

During this time nursing staff will provide consultations for babies between the ages of 0 - 8 weeks.

Please be aware that normal open sessions will not run at any centres over this time.

Aged and Disability Services

Council provides a range of aged and disability services including home and community care, delivered meals, respite care and activity groups.

Tatura and Shepparton Senior Citizens are served their last meals on Wednesday 14 December 2011 and will recommence on Wednesday 18 January 2012.

Mooroopna community meals will finish on Thursday 15 December 2011 and will recommence on Monday 23 January 2012.

Tatura community meals finished on Monday 12 December 2011 and will recommence on Monday 6 February 2012.

Home care and respite care are not available on public holidays (including Sunday 25 December, Monday 26 December, Tuesday 27 December 2011 and Sunday 1 January and Monday 2 January 2012). A Care Manager can be contacted on 5832 9785 if alternative services are required.

Planned Activity Groups last day of activities will be Friday 16 December 2011. Programs will recommence on Tuesday 10 January 2012.

Personal care will operate as normal.
Meals on Wheels will operate as normal.

Libraries

There are three library branches in Greater Shepparton operating through Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation as well as a mobile service.

Shepparton, Mooroopna and Tatura branches will close at noon (or just later) on Saturday 24 December 2011 and re-open on Wednesday 3 January 2012 at the regular opening hours.

The library mobile service will visit Strathbogie on 24 December from 9.30am to 12.00noon.
